In addition to teaching
freshman composition courses, I have worked extensively in the
administrative side of the college as director of the Public Relations Office,
director of the Office of Continuing Education, and chairman of the
Divisions of Social & Behavioral Sciences and Fine Arts and Communications.
I have worked and taught at Carl Albert
State College since the summer of 1980. I came to Poteau from Weatherford, Okla., where I
had been a public relations assistant and sports information director for Southwestern
State University for almost six years after completing a master's degree in
biological sciences education. I had moved to Weatherford after serving four years
in the U.S. Air Force as an information specialist and editing USAF base newspapers at
Altus, Okla., and the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs.
Prior to enlisting in the Air Force, I earned a bachelor's degree in
journalism at Texas Christian University and worked as a general assignment
reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. I was CASCs
journalism and photography instructor and public relations director until the summer of 1990 when I moved
to the Office of Continuing Education. Two years later, I added division chairman to my
duties and served for 10 years as chairman of the Division of Fine Arts
& Communications and the Division of Social & Behavioral
Sciences. In the summer of 2002, I resigned as division chair to
devote more time to continuing education. In July of 2004, I left continuing
education to become a full-time instructor.
