Tuition: It is
defined in Webster’s as “the price of, or payment for instruction.” Students pay
tuition based on the number of credits received for a particular course. In
other words, the charge for a three-credit or three hour course would be three
times the hourly tuition rate for that level of a course. All CASC courses are
undergraduate so there is only one rate per credit hour. Tuition is also figured
by residency status. In-state students are charged the resident rate and out of
state students are charged the non-resident rate. Presently all non-resident
rates have a partial waiver so that the rates are the same and our non-resident
students are not being charged more
Fees: All students pay special fees each semester to contribute to the
betterment and general welfare of the campus community. Fees are also based on
the number of credits received for a particular course. Mandatory fees are those
charged for all courses the college offers.
The Activity Fee provides partial support to such programs, services, and
organizations as the Student Government Association, student organizations, fine
arts programs, athletics, intramural activities, and the student activities
office. In some cases membership dues provide additional support and the
organization conducts money raising events to complete their budgets.
The Assessment Fee provides for skills assessment and evaluation of
students’ capabilities at various stages of their academic careers; as well as
getting feedback from students regarding their course work and instruction.
The Data Processing Fee provides for the maintenance of existing
information technology facilities, and the expansion of hardware, software and
multimedia capabilities. It is dedicated to covering increasing costs within the
network and system infrastructure, with hardware and software, and with
licensing. Upgrading system security in an effort to prohibit college networks
from being susceptible to hackers is also a priority.
The Facility Fee funds renovation, maintenance, and construction of
campus facilities so as to meet the demands of a growing enrollment.
The Library Fee defrays the costs of equipment, software, and other
aspects related to operating the on-line computerized library service. These
fees allow student access to heavily-used electronic journals and on-demand
information services.
The Records Fee provides for the maintenance of the academic records
system, the grade reports issued each semester, and the issuance of official
transcripts.
Academic Service Fees are those charged for a specific course, courses,
service, or event but not generally required of all students.
A Certificate Fee is charged for those students completing and preparing
to graduate from a Certificate program of the college.
A Graduation Fee is charged for those students who have completed the
requirements and are preparing to graduate with an Associates Degree from the
college.
HPER 2103 Fee is charged for those students enrolled in Care and
Prevention of Athletic Injuries to pay for the surgical tape and other supplies
needed for the course.
An I D Card Fee is charged each semester to cover the costs of the I D
Cards all students are required to have.
A Music Fee is charged to cover the extra costs involved in the
one-on-one instruction students receive who are taking private voice and piano
courses.
A Remedial Fee is required of all students enrolled in zero-level,
remedial courses. Placement in zero-level courses is determined by either low
ACT scores or deficiencies in high school curricula.
A Science Lab Fee is assessed for all students enrolled in those science
courses requiring labs to help pay the increased instructional costs of
consumable materials such as chemicals and breakage.
