The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 and its amendments establish certain rights and protections for students concerning their educational record (social security number, transcript, course schedule, GPA, etc), including the rights to inspect and review information the college is keeping on a student; amend the records after inspection and in certain cases, add a statement to the record; consent to disclosure of education record; and filing complaints.

CASC may disclose without student consent “directory information” when legitimate educational or legal authority exists, such as publishing a student’s name, hometown, degree, etc. for graduation, sporting activities, clubs, honors, etc. CASC specifies what is “Directory Information” in the college catalog, student handbook, and on-line. Students wishing to “Withhold Directory Information” may do so in writing and at the Office of Admissions.
