Radiologic Technologists, also referred to as radiographers, are allied health professionals educated in the performance of technical procedures using ionizing radiation to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment. Examples of these procedures include radiologic examinations of the central nervous, digestive, circulatory, skeletal, urinary, respiratory and reproductive systems. Radiographic procedures are not only performed in radiology departments, but also in surgery, the emergency room, and with mobile x-ray equipment. Radiographers not only prepare patients and operate equipment, they also maintain patient records. They work in a wide array of health care settings including hospitals, clinics, and medical and dental laboratories. Opportunities for employment in this field are expected to be favorable with salaries ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 annually.
