   I.  Course Description:

PLANE TRIGONOMETRY.  A two dimensional study of angular measure, trigonometric solution of right and oblique triangles, vectors, logarithms, trigonometric and inverse trigonometric equations, complex numbers,  graphing trigonometric functions, and polar coordinates.   Prerequisites:  Math 0123 and Math 1513, or their equivalents.       Credit 3 hours.

  II.  Required Textbook:

Sullivan; Trigonometry; Eighth Edition; Prentice Hall Publishing; 2008.

 III.  Course Objectives:

A.  To help the student enhance his appreciation for  mathematics.

B.       To help the students master trigonometry to the extent that they can apply it to the study of physical sciences and engineering sciences.

C.       To help the student acquire knowledge that is vital to the study of more advanced mathematics courses.

IV. Teaching Format:

This course will be taught as a web-based course. The material will be presented using PowerPoint presentations, video, and other mutimedia.  The tests and homework will be done online. The student will be responsible for reading all material and working all problems assigned. Since this is a correspondence course via Internet you will have to spend the equivalent time on your computer, as you would sit in the classroom. For a three-hour credit course that means three hours per week interacting online studying presentations, viewing additional web pages and interacting with software.   Computer assisted instruction CD’s are available at our learning resource center.

  V. Evaluation:

At least four 50-minute objective examinations will be given during the semester.  Problems are assigned from each section taught.

These assignments appear on the calendar along with their due dates. Any faxes can be faxed to (918) 647-1201.    The test dates and homework dates are also available on the calendar.  Please continually check the calendar. The test will be given online and available on certain days only so again check calendar.

The test average will comprise of 80 percent of the semester grade and the assigned problems will comprise the remaining  20 percent .  Homework assignments will be collected weekly.  See calendar to see which homework assignments and possible tests will be due each week.

  VI. Grading:

The following grade scale will be used to determine a letter grade:

90% - 100% > A

80% - 89% > B

70% - 79% > C

60% - 69% > D

Below 60% > F

VII. Internet and other related learning activities:

Your activity while logged into this course is something I will monitor to see if you are viewing instructional materials and  interacting with the software appropriately.  As stated earlier you will need to spend at least 3 hours online reading and studying instructional material and additional time doing homework.  Your success in this class depends on your effort.  Even though you are not in the classroom you will have to discipline yourself as if you were.  Additional software available and is very good for working trigonometry problems is Mathxpert.  This software is available free of charge in our Learning Resource Center so you can contact them at (918)647-1315.

  VIII. Make-Up Work:

The student is expected to take all examinations online at a specified time and date. The tests will only be available at certain times as stated on the calendar.  If a student has circumstances arise which make it impractical to take a test at its regularly assigned time, it is his/her responsibility to contact the instructor prior to the examination if possible.  Make up exams will be more difficult and are strongly discouraged; however, they will be given if the instructor decides the student had legitimate reason to miss and notified the instructor ahead of time when it was possible.    One test excluding the final will be dropped .
