Belva Brooks Barber Appointed to Carl Albert State College Board of Regents
Belva Brooks Barber has been appointed to the Carl Albert State College Board of Regents. The appointment made by Governor Mary Fallin has Belva taking over the open position of her father-in-law, Bill J. Barber, who recently passed away after serving as a CASC Regent since 1994.
Belva became a CASC Development Foundation Trustee in 1992, was elected to serve as Secretary of the Foundation in 2004, then as Vice-Chair in 2006. She has served as Chair of the Foundation since 2007 and is also Chair of the Foundation Executive Committee. Since the creation of the Gold Dust Gala in 1998, she has served as Co-Chair and is the driving force behind its success. Her family has supported the Scholars Program every year for 20 years, and they are supportive of other Foundation programs as well. In 2005 Belva was inducted into the Carl Albert State College Hall of Fame for her commitment to education and Carl Albert State College.
CASC President Garry M. Ivey stated, “Our thanks go to Senator Mark Allen and the Governor for helping make this possible. The College has been the beneficiary of Belva’s dedication for years through her leadership with our Foundation. Now to bring her passion for education, plus her vast knowledge and understanding of the needs of the College to our Regent Board is outstanding. We are very pleased with this appointment, and we know she will help guide the College in the right direction as we move forward. We are grateful and excited to welcome Regent Belva Brooks Barber.”
Belva’s appointment will be confirmed by Senator Allen at the Capitol on Monday, March 3, 2014. Jahni Tapley, Carl Albert’s other recently appointed Regent, will also be confirmed on Monday.
