Bill J. Barber – Carl Albert State College Regent, Friend, Supporter – He Will Be Missed
The passing of Bill J. Barber will be felt by the entire region as his family and friends remember and pay tribute to a great man. “Outside Bill J.’s family, no one will miss him more than his ‘family’ at Carl Albert State College” stated CASC President Garry M. Ivey. “Bill J. was a friend as well as a dedicated CASC Regent.”
“In addition, Bill J. has been one of the College’s strongest supporters over the years through both his gifts of time and financial contributions” stated President Ivey. “Bill J.’s dedication to CASC as a Regent since 1994 is appreciated by all of us at Carl Albert. He has been a strong supporter of the College over the years, and was always here to assist in whatever way possible to ensure that we moved in the right direction. He knew the value of education, and he put the needs of our students as a top priority. His generous spirit and his family’s willingness to assist us financially has been overwhelming.”
Mr. Barber has been at the center of much of the College’s growth. The first residence hall on campus is named in his honor, and he was one of the first to contribute to the creation of the Scholars Program. He has been involved in the CASC Foundation since its early development, and was honored as a CASC Hall of Fame recipient in 1994.
Mr. Ivey explained, “The College was so important to Bill J. His passion for education led him to be a great proponent of the mission of Carl Albert State College. He was someone I trusted, admired, and will miss on a daily basis.” President Ivey concluded, “Bill J. Barber is not a man you replace on a board or in one’s life. He gave freely of his time, knowledge, and gifts to make the world a better place for all the lives he touched.”
