Black History Month Plans Announced at Carl Albert State College

Carl Albert State College will celebrate Black History Month during February.  On Thursday, February 18, 2016, Dr. Phil Birdine, President of Western Oklahoma State College will be the guest speaker from 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. at the Hamilton Auditorium on the Poteau campus.  The presentation is open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Dr. Birdine is a graduate of Langston University (B.A. Degree), the University of Central Oklahoma (Master’s Degree) and Texas Tech University (Doctorate).

Dr. Birdine began his higher education career in 1979 at Carl Albert State College. He continued his career at Emporia State University in Kansas, Texas Tech University, Midwestern State University in Texas, Langston University, OSU-Oklahoma City, OSU-Stillwater, and now Western Oklahoma State College in Altus. At Western, Dr. Birdine served as Dean of Academic and Student Support Services and as Vice President for Academic and Student Support Services.  On July 1, 2010, he became the fifth president of Western Oklahoma State College.
