Carl Albert State College Announces Upcoming Carter Lecture Series

Keynote Speaker – David L. Boren

Carl Albert State College will be hosting the Carter Lecture Series on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Hamilton Auditorium on the CASC Poteau Campus at 11 a.m.  Thcarter-lecture-david-boren-2016e public is invited to attend.

This year’s keynote speaker will be David L. Boren. He served as Governor of Oklahoma from 1974 to 1978, as a U.S. Senator from 1979 to 1994, and then became the thirteenth President of the University of Oklahoma in November 1994. He is the first person in state history to have served in all three positions.

The lecture series was originally established in 1986 by the family of the late State Senator and Mrs. Clem M. Hamilton. Senator Hamilton sponsored the legislation that placed Poteau Junior College (now CASC) into Oklahoma’s higher education system, and the CASC auditorium complex is named in their honor.

When the Hamilton Lecture Series ended with the Honorable Jimmy Carter as the Series keynote speaker in 1989, President Carter was so impressed with the theme and purpose of the lecture series that he told then CASC President Joe E. White and the CASC Board of Regents that he would like to see it continue. President Carter pledged sufficient endowment funding for the program to continue, and the CASC officials decided to accept Carter’s generous offer and to continue the series in honor of President Carter.

David Boren joins a distinguished group of keynote speakers throughout the years at the lecture series including U.S. Presidents Carter, Gerald Ford, and George H. Bush.
