Carl Albert State College Athletes Honored for Academic Success by National Junior College Athletic Association
Four Carl Albert State College student athletes and the Carl Albert State College softball team have been honored by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Student Athletes Awards Program for 2014-2015. The program highlights teams and individual athletes across the country for their academic success based on grade point averages (GPA).
On the Carl Albert softball team, Kendra Coleman from Red Oak earned a GPA between 3.8 and 3.99 and was honored for academic success with the Superior Award for Academic Excellence. Also on the softball team, Sericca Rider, also from Red Oak, was presented an Exemplary Academic Achievement Award for having a GPA between 3.6 and 3.79.
Players on the CASC womens’ basketball team were honored with the same criteria. Tara Hawkins from Talihina received the Superior Award, and Chasity Asberry from Tulsa was awarded the Exemplary Award.
The Carl Albert softball team is among the NJCAA Division 1 All-Academic Teams named, with an overall 3.27 GPA average.
Mike St. John, Carl Albert’s Athletic Director stated, “On behalf of the coaching staff at Carl Albert, we appreciate the example these students are setting for all our current and future athletes.” He continued, “The commitment it takes to be successful in the classroom and as athletes is very tough, so congratulations are certainly in order for these individuals as well as the entire softball team.”
Randy Graves, CASC Associate Vice President for Student Life stated, “We are proud of these student athletes and appreciate their diligence. The example they are setting for other Viking athletes and for that matter all Carl Albert State College students is exceptional.”
