Five Carl Albert State College student athletes and the Carl Albert State College softball team have been honored by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Student Athletes Awards Program for 2015-2016. The program highlights teams and individual athletes across the country for their academic success based on grade point averages (GPA).
On the Carl Albert softball team, Sidnee Ward from Poteau earned a GPA of 4.0 and was honored for academic success with the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence. Also on the softball team, Raelynn Caldwell, from Poteau, and Shala Sutter from Bixby were presented with the Superior Academic Achievement Award for having a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99.
Trevor Hudgens from Dewey played baseball for CASC, and was also honored on the Superior Academic Achievement Award list.
One CASC basketball player, Anna Rogers from West Fork, Arkansas was honored on the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award list for a 3.60 – 3.79 GPA
The Carl Albert softball team was named to the NJCAA Division I Academic Team, Honorable Mention. This is the fourth straight year the CASC softball team has received the team award. The team surpassed all previous CASC teams with a GPA average of 3.49 – the highest softball team GPA in NJCAA Region II.
Randy Graves, Carl Albert’s Associate Vice President of Student Life stated, “We are proud of these student athletes and appreciate their diligence. The example they are setting for other Viking athletes and for that matter all Carl Albert State College students is exceptional.” He continued, “The commitment it takes to be successful in the classroom and as athletes is very tough, so congratulations are certainly in order for these individuals as well as the entire softball team.”
