Carl Albert State College Occupational Health and Safety Students Tour Baldor

Students in the Carl Albert State College Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program recently visited Baldor Electric in Fort Smith.

Kristi McConnell is the director of the OHS program and explained, “Baldor makes safety their number one priority and communicates that to their employees. It was important for our students to observe what they are learning in the classroom in a work environment.”  Two of Baldor’s safety professionals guided the CASC group through the facility and explained how different equipment is made to protect employees.  The safety experts explained to the students that safety requires commitment and involvement starting with upper management.

Rob Gillespie, a student in the OHS program at CASC stated, “I had a great time touring Baldor.   It was very educational and I would like to thank Baldor and their safety team for hosting our tour.”  Another student, Jennifer Davidson, shared, “I too want to extend thanks to Baldor. It was very helpful to see the safety aspects at their facility.”

McConnell concluded, “I am very grateful we had this opportunity. It is important for our students to see how safety is applied in the workplace. It was eye opening for many of our students, and helped the class realize the importance of the career path they have chosen.”
