CASC Cross Country Teams Receive Donation from Community

On Friday, Sep. 7, 2018, representatives from The Community State Bank and Central National Bank, both of Poteau, Okla., presented Head Cross Country Coach, Aaron Emberton with donated shoes for the CASC Cross Country teams.

“Shoes are just like tires, over time, the tread wears,” said Emberton. “Our runners are putting a lot of miles on their shoes each week.  One pair of shoes will not last throughout the season.  I began asking friends in the running community for donations of old shoes, just to get us through until I could order a new pair for each runner.  I ended up getting much more than I asked for.”

Josh Wiersig and Jackie Perez, both of Community State Bank, pulled funds together to supply each runner with a new pair of shoes, according to Emberton. Central National Bank also recognized the need and made contributions to help the student athletes.

“Ron Hall brought us a monetary donation to help with other costs associated with keeping our runners equipped with proper running attire,” Emberton said.

In addition to the donations from TCSB and CNB, local running groups have donated gently used running shoes to the CASC student athletes.

“We have a communtiy that is active in running,” Emberton said. “They understand the importance of having good shoes in which to train.  Mary Law, CASC staff member, donated several pairs of shoes.  Hali Repass was also able to secure even more pairs of shoes and running attire for our female runners.

“This is how a community works.” Emberton continued. “We were in need and our community stepped in to provide for that need.  Community State Bank and Central National Bank are always willing to help Carl Albert State College.  They have been great community partners for decades.  I asked for a small donation and they said they would do one better.  In addition to our business partners, members of local running groups also came up big for us. On behalf of the Cross Country program, I would like to say Thank you to our wonderful partners.”
