CASC STUDENTS RECEIVE HIGH PHI THETA KAPPA HONORS

Recently, two Carl Albert State College students received high honors for accomplishments within the organization.  Phi Theta Kappa chapter nominees submit written online applications for the award each fall. The applicants are then vetted by each state. This year, Oklahoma selected 28 Phi Theta Kappa member applications from community colleges across the state. Each of the All-Oklahoma Academic Team Award winners were celebrated in the House of Representatives at the Oklahoma State House on March 29th. At the awards event, CASC students Hayden Workman and Macy Nobles were recognized for contributions on the All-Oklahoma Academic Team, receiving an All-Oklahoma Academic Team medal and certificate of their accomplishments.  Both students received official citations from the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

“To be able to experience our great capitol in the way I was allowed made me feel truly blessed for the environment Carl Albert has placed me in so I was able to succeed,” said Workman.  “It was my first trip to the Capitol, and afterwards I was talking for weeks about those I was able to meet and what I was able to see.  I am so thankful for our Phi Theta Kappa Chapter and Carl Albert State College for the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Nobles was awarded the 2022 New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar and will be recognized at the national level and receive a $2,250 transfer scholarship to the university of her choice. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, with additional support by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.  “Out of over 2000 student applications from Oklahoma, Macy was number 1,” said Samantha Piper, Phi Theta Kappa Advisor.  “This is a huge accomplishment for Macy that will have a lasting impact on her education and career goals, and it is certainly evidence that Carl Albert State College has a continuing tradition of excellence in our graduates.”

“It was an honor representing our Phi Theta Kappa Chapter at Carl Albert State College at the Oklahoma State Capitol,” said Nobles.  “I would like to give a big thank you to President Falkner for introducing me and letting me speak with Representative Rick West.  This is one memory from Carl Albert that I will never forget.”

“Scholars who qualify for the All-USA Academic Team are automatically put in for a variety of further scholarships and awards,” said Piper.
