Jahni S. Tapley named to Regent Board at Carl Albert State College
Jahni S. Tapley of Idabel has been appointed to serve as a member of the Carl Albert State College Board of Regents. The seven year appointment of Tapley was made by Governor Mary Fallin to replace Jenna McBee on the Carl Albert Board. McBee’s appointment last summer to serve as a Special District Judge led to the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s ruling that McBee could not serve in both capacities.
Regent Tapley is a 2000 Carl Albert State College graduate where she attended on a softball scholarship, a 2003 graduate of Oklahoma State University, and a 2006 graduate of Oklahoma City University School of Law. In addition to working as a private practice attorney, she is also a part time municipal judge for the cities of Valliant and Haworth, and is serving as Interim Chief Executive Officer of McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel.
Tapley shared that her focus as an attorney is on family law where she is a Guardian ad Litem for children in the middle of custody disputes. She also represents children and parents who are involved in DHS cases. She is a recipient of the 2009 Journal Record Leadership in Law Award, a member of the CHIO (County Health Improvement Organization) Committee, and the OSU Alumni Leadership Board. Her professional memberships include the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, Oklahoma Bar Association, McCurtain County Bar Association, and Oklahoma Municipal Judges Association.
On a personal level, Ms. Tapley states that she is an avid runner and has already ran in 12 half marathons this year, with her final one for this year coming up on December 7, 2013 at the St. Jude’s Half in Memphis, Tennessee. She also shared that she enjoys spoiling her niece and two nephews, Ella, Axton, and Jack Henry, and is an active member of First Baptist Church, Valliant.
Carl Albert State College President Garry M. Ivey stated, “On behalf of Carl Albert State College, we welcome Jahni Tapley to our Board of Regents. The leadership of our Regents is monumental, and we appreciate Ms.Tapley’s willingness to join our Board. We realize our Regents are busy with many personal and professional obligations and therefore their dedication of time and energy to the College is invaluable. The mission of Carl Albert State College in making student success a top priority would not be possible without the commitment that starts at the top with our Regents and is carried out by our administration, faculty, and staff.” President Ivey concluded, “As a Carl Albert graduate, Jahni is aware of the important role the College plays throughout the region, and we look forward to her return to campus as one of our Regents.”
