Testing
Students who are degree seeking must test for admissions with either ACT or SAT and have those test results evaluated for placement into college-level courses.Adult students may test with COMPASS for admissions and course placement. High school students are encouraged to test with national ACT while in high school, but may alternately test with CASC’s ACT Residual testing prior to admissions to CASC. High school students interested in concurrent enrollment must provide a National ACT score for admissions into concurrent courses. National ACT
The National ACT is administered by Marsha Caughern. Students who need to register for the National ACT may visit http://www.actstudent.org for upcoming test dates and registration information. Students may also contact Marsha at mcaughern@carlalbert.edu or 918-647-1475.
Residual ACT
The Residual ACT is administered by Jessica Lloyd on the Poteau Campus and by Tamara Wright on the Sallisaw Campus. Students must prepay the 40.00 testing fee at the Business Office, prior to test and bring receipt of payment with the correct test date to the testing room for check in. Students who need to register for the Residual ACT may contact Jessica at jljones@carlalbert.edu or 918-647-1264 (Poteau) or Tamara at twright@carlalbert.edu or 918-775-6977 (Sallisaw).  Residual ACT scores are only valid for the institution where taken.  A concurrent student may only use the Residual ACT test scores for scholarship applications and may not use them for entrance exam scores until completion of graduation.

COMPASS / ACCUPLACER Testing
COMPASS and ACCUPLACER Testing are administered by the library on the Poteau Campus and by Tamara Wright on the Sallisaw Campus.
High school students who tested below a 19 in sub-areas of the ACT and need to raise those sub areas for admissions and course placement may do so by taking the COMPASS / ACCUPLACER test.
Adult students may test with COMPASS / ACCUPLACER for admissions and course placement.

Compass Testing Hours
Regular COMPASS testing hours are Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. & Friday 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
* ATTENTION:  COMPASS /ACCUPLACER testing will not be available on the Sallisaw campus July 5, 6, 7.
Fees:
  • The COMPASS and ACCUPLACER tests consists of three sections, reading, writing and math.
    Each section is administered free of charge to admitted CASC students the first time it is taken.
  • Retakes are administered at a fee of $5.00 per individual section of the test.
  • Non-CASC students pay of fee of $10 per test section.

Payments Procedures for Retakes:

  • Poteau Campus: Students must go to the Business Office to pay for test(s) and obtain a receipt.
    The receipt is then taken to the library.
  • Sallisaw Campus: Students must go to the Business Office to pay for the test(s) and obtain a receipt.  The receipt is then taken to the LRC.

Registration:

  • Students must first visit the Admissions Office or the Enrollment Center and obtain a testing slip detailing which test(s) must be taken.
  • The COMPASS and ACCUPLACER tests are administered on a walk-in basis. No registration is needed.
  • Tests are administered on the Poteau campus in the Library and on the Sallisaw campus in the LRC.
  • The tests are not timed. The entire test takes approximately 1-1/2 hours.  Please arrive in time to allow yourself enough time to complete testing before the center closes.

Testing Policies:

  • Student must have student CASC ID number
  • A valid photo ID must be presented prior to testing
  • Cell phones and electronic devices are not permitted during testing.
CLEP Testing
College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) allows students to demonstrate that they have acquired college-level mastery of course content in 34 different subject areas. Students who successfully complete a CLEP exam can enrich their degree programs with higher-level courses in the same discipline, expand their horizons by taking a wider array of electives, and avoid the need to repeat material that they already know.  Fees:

  • CLEP exams are administered on the Poteau campus of Carl Albert State College.
  • Each CLEP exam has an administration fee of $20 paid directly to CASC.
  • Each CLEP exam costs $80 and is paid directly to CLEP.

Registration:

  • CLEP exams are administered by appointment only.
  • Registration is required.
    • CLEP exams are purchased at https://clep.collegeboard.org
    • CLEP exam registration ID is provided to the library at the time the test is scheduled.
